In two high scoring games, the Bristol Knights defeated the Glastonbury Aarows 8-4, and the Newington Indians 6-3.
In game 1, 3 pitchers split the 6 inning game, each throwing 2 innings. The game was running very long and was called due to curfew restrictions after the 6th, so the second game would have ample time to get it in. Lucas Nickerson started on the mound. Lucas and threw hard, but also was a bit wild, walking 4 and hitting 1 [in the head… he was fine… ], giving up 3 runs over the 2 innings. Kyle Faust took over the next two but also didn’t feel up to form, although he managed to hold the Aarows to only 1 more run. Rookie Erik Michaels pitched the last 2, holding them scoreless in an impressive debut. On defense, Joe Strahowski had the catch of the year so far in right field on a ball down the line slicing out of play in foul ground. Bristol’s offense was spread around amoungst a bunch of players with good days. Kyle Faust who was 3 for 3, with 2 SB, 1 run, and 1 rbi. Also Scott Dickens added 2 hits, including an rbi double and 1 run scored. Shawn Ferguson had 2 hits, including 1 rbi and 1 runs scored. Paul Franceschi scored two runs, and had an rbi single. Lucas Nickerson had a 2 rbi single. Chris Dickens had a rbi triple and run scored, and Chris Taylor added a triple and run scored too.
In game 2, Tony Jones got the start and pitched 5 strong innings, only giving up 1 earned run while striking out 3 Indians. Rex Cone came in to close out the win with 2 scoreless innings. Our offense was led by Kevin Gokey with 3 walks and 2 runs. Rex Cone had 1 hit, 2 runs, and 1 rbi, while Dan Beecher had with 2 singles and an rbi. Paul Franceschi had a single with 2 rbi. Joe Strahowski also added a textbook bunt single.
