Friday, Elmer’s 5 – Knights 0: In our only shutout of the year to date, we didn’t have much going at the plate. The only positive is that Chris Taylor continued his streak of multi-hit games to 3 in a row. On the mound, Rex Cone pitched pretty well, but gave up 4 runs in the loss while striking out 7. Lucas Nickerson came in for relief and limited Elmer’s to one more run.
Monday, Knights 6 – Elmer’s 5: The Knights won a tough game Monday at Mill Pond Field in Newington. The game started with a bang, when Shawn Ferguson led off the game with a bomb of a HR to left field. Later in the game he nearly did it again but was barely held to a triple. Chris Taylor kept his streak alive of multi-hit games, now at 4, while also driving in 2. Scott Dickens had a single and 2rbi, and Kevin Gokey had a run scored and a late single that drove in Joey Strahowski (on with a bunt single) for the run that ended up being the game winner.
On the mound, Kyle Faust battled a tiny umpire strike zone and only gave up 1 through 5 innings. In the 6th he ran into some trouble, but we closed the door on the Elmer’s rally with 2 pitches after Chris Desjardins came into the game in relief. Faust upped his team lead in wins to 4, while Desjardins got the save. In the field, some terrific plays were turned on defense. Rex Cone threw out a runner at the plate, who was tagging up to score on a hit to Rex in center. Shawn Fergusson also made a huge diving catch on a line drive to short that ended the 6th and ended the rally and saved runs.
