The Knights finished the regular season on Friday with a crazy thrilling walk off victory over Elmer’s, The win saved us from finishing the regular season in 7th place and keeping us from starting the playoffs in the loser’s bracket.
With the win, the Knights finished percentage points ahead of the East Hartford Angels and the Loco Perro Expos. We finished 5th in the Manchester Twilight league… and now start the playoffs facing the 4 seed, Elmer’s on Monday. Because Elmer’s couldn’t close the door on us on Friday, they now face us to start the playoffs.

As for Friday’s game itself…
Here are a few points. Rick Blais started on the mound, going 3 and 2/3 innings smoothly before running into trouble, and walking the bases loaded with 2 outs. He then gave up a base hit to left field that got under Drew Yukelson’s glove on the scoop to try and pick it up to throw the ball to the plate. So unfortunately 3 runs scored on the play. Lucas came in to put out the fire, and after a few more batters, shut down their big inning… but not before we were down 5-0 with all their runs coming in the 4th. The Knights answered with a big 6th inning, scoring 4 runs on hits by Trevor Bretton, Ed Dickman, Rick Barrett, a 2 RBI double by Rex Cone, and a huge 2 out bloop 2 RBI single to center field bringing us back to within one run. In the 7th, Paul brought in his college intern to close out the game on the mound. Young Trevor Bretton was a player Paul has been trying to get out on the field with us all season long, but only was able to bring for or last regular season game. Trevor came in throwing heat and struck out 2 of 3 in the 1-2-3 top of the seventh. The Knights proceeded to get one more run when Trevor walked, and eventually scored on a pass ball. We had men on 2nd and 3rd with no outs in the bottom of the 7th, but could not plate another runner. Trevor proceeded to strike out the side to start the 8th. With 2 outs in the bottom of the 8th, Jay Gilbert found a way on base on a tough play mishandled by their shortstop. Jay got to second on Kilker’s walk, and then was plated walk off style by the man of the night… our young little savior, Trevor Bretton who hit an opposite field shot to the fence, and winning the game for the Knights. A crazy night, full of suspense, anguish, and a joyful conclusion.
