Willimantic knocked Bristol into the elimination bracket Monday night to face the Glastonbury Pirates who eliminated the Portland Panthers. Tuesday’s game was rained out so the elimination bracket final will be played tonight, WED 8/12 at 7pm at Rotary Field, and the Championship Series starts on THU 8/13 with game 1 at 6pm.
The Knights will face the #1 Seed Glastonbury Pirates who split their season series with the #2 Seed Knights. Bristol lost a very tough game on Monday, which means this one additional win is needed to play in the best of 3 Championship Series vs the #5 seed Willimantic Ridges. The Knights also split their season series vs Willimantic this year.
In the game Monday, Willimantic were able to push 2 runs across in the top of the 6th, breaking open a scoreless tie. Chris McGrath threw another gem for Bristol, striking out 12 while only giving up 1 earned run. In the bottom of the seventh, Bristol’s Brian LaRochelle led off with a single. With 1 out, Scott Dickens slapped a 2 strike grounder to 3B and the fielder bobbled the ball and he threw it away. So with 1 out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Brian LaRochelle scored on a pass ball. Unfortunately for the Knights, that was all they got as the Ridges recorded 2 more infield ground outs to end the game… final score 2-1 Ridges.
