The Bristol Knights defeated the New Britain Cubs of the UBA League on Friday night 14-4, snapping a 2 year losing streak to our friends. The Cubs managed by Nate Klimkiewicz had been able to squeak victories the last 2 years, but not this one. The Cubs play in a aluminum bat league, unlike us the Knights who are in an all wooden bat league. This always leads to a strange scrimmage, but still very fun. The Knights were represented on Friday on the mound by Rex Cone, Rick Barret, Matt Doyle, Lucas Nickerson, and Mitch Hummer. The rest of the team in attendance were manager Scot Dickens, Earl Oakes, Drew Gallagher, Jason Gilbert, Ernie Meza, and Justin Kilker. Also playing for the Cubs this season (and who played against us) are 2 of our call up players… Cesar Lopez and Dan Trejo-Serrano. The Cubs were slightly short on guys so after their 2 pitches threw, our pitchers pitched against both teams. This led to some interesting matchups as Doyle and Mitch got to face their teammates. The Knights were led on offense by Rex Cone with a double and single, Rick Barret who got on base 4 times including a bomb of a double, Drew Gallagher with 3 singles, Lucas Nickerson with a monster double to the fence in left, Mitch Hummer with a double and single, Matt Doyle with a triple and single, and lastly Justin Kilker with 2 singles.
The Knights open their regular season with a doubleheader at Muzzy Field in Bristol on TUE 5/15. At 6pm the Knights host the East Hartford Angels and at 8pm the Knights host the Tri-County Twins. Later in the week on Friday, the Knights welcome the Loco Perro Expos to Bristol Eastern HS.
