Tonight, the stage is set… two division rivals come to the beautiful and newly renovated Muzzy Field to take on the home town back to back champions of the Connecticut Twilight League, the Bristol Knights. The Knights host the East Hartford Angels at 6pm(ish) in game 1 and the Chicago Sam’s Orioles in game 2 (approximately 20 minutes following game 1… 8:30ish). The Angels have started the year slowly in 2016, but are always a tough matchup and the Orioles have started the year with the leagues best record so far.
The Knights started the year slowly (as usual), with the pitching being strong but the hitting being slow to catch up. So after the Knights lost the first 2 games of the season, the team has now rattled off 4 straight wins in the last 2 weeks. Now 6 games into the 26 game regular season, the Knights offense seems to be finding its spots to show up. It did in spectacular fashion one week ago at the East Hartford Angels home field (Martin Park) when the Bristol players hit 4 home runs. Lefty batters Rick Barrett, Eddie Dickman, Phil Rothkugel, and Brian LaRochelleall all put one over the fence in right field. The team hopes to keep some of this momentum going over the doubleheader today and again tomorrow’s huge game at Dodd Stadium in Norwich vs Elmer’s.
It is a busy day at Muzzy for Bristol baseball. Prior to the Knights’ games, at 3:30, the Bristol Eastern Lancers baseball squad will be playing a second round Connecticut high school baseball state tournament game. The Lancers are the number 1 overall seed in the “L” division entering the state tourney, and are looking to knock off 16 seed Windsor. The Bristol Knights are rooting for the Lancers since many of our current and former players played at Bristol Eastern for coach Mike Giovinazzo. Good Luck Gentlemen!
Knights and Angels players can arrive early and can wait with their teams in the stands until the game is over and the teams have left the clubhouses. Knights players should try to arrive by 5:15ish and come dressed since we don’t know when we’ll get access to the clubhouse on the 3rd base side.
There will be a lot of Knights players coming to the games tonight, but we will rotate in guys and give everyone a chance to contribute throughout the night. Lets win 2.
